posted 29 Aug 2015, 14:10 by Tom Duggan
Mullinavat 's Junior side went out of the championship when they were defeated by Clara by four points in a tough encounter in Danesfort this evening. Mullinavat were at sixes and sevens during the first half and Clara looked to be home and dry when they led by  3-10 to 0-7 at half time. However a spirited second half saw them gradually claw back the deficit and at the end they were only four points adrift.  Michael Malone led the recovery and his two second half goals were outstanding efforts.
Mullinavat's recovery started  two  minutes after the restart when David Murphy got on the end of a Mikey Jones free and raised a green flag. Nicky Anthony sent a screamer just wide and Clara were rattled. in the 37th minute Michael Malone  gathered possession 45 metres from the Clara goal. He set off towards the Clara goal and buried the ball in the net. . However Clara settled and sent over 3 unanswered points to edge in front again. Mullinavat came back with three points , a beauty from adam Mansfield and 2 frees from Mikey Jones. Clara regained the initiative with 3 points of their own to go clear again. Mullinavat refused to give up and Michael Malone again rattled the net with a bullet from an acute angle to close the gap again. However time was running out and Mullinavat could only add one more point from Pat Mulhern . Clara were worthy winners but Mullinavat can take heart from the second half display.
