Mullinavat under 21 side won the Southern Final for the second year in a row when they defeated Glenmore in the replay in Mooncoin on Saturday last. This was a much improved display from the drawn game and Mullinavat were worthy winners with captain Ger Malone showing the way with a  score of  3-2  from play. They now qualify to meet northern Champions O'Loughlin Gaels in the the county final on Sunday next. Hopefully the lads can make up for the disappointment of losing last year's final and finish the year on a winning note.
Mullinavat got off to a blistering start when Ger Malone got on to the end of a line ball from John Walsh and finished to the net in the first minute.Glenmore replied with a point from Ger Aylward in the second minute. Glenmore added three more points from Alan Murphy frees but Mullinavat were back on level terms by the tenth minute thanks  to a point from Mark Mansfield (free).Ger Aylward and Ger Malone traded points before Mark Mansfield edged Mullinavat in front midway through the half with a point from a '65. Half-time score Mullinavat 2-6 Glenmore 0-9
Mullinavat began the second half well and John Walsh pointed in the first minute after a good pass from Darren Kenneally. The sides traded two points each but in the seventh minute great work by Adam Mansfield and Liam Fennelly found John Walsh in space and John showed great acceleration and a deadly finish to score a fine goal. Three minutes later Glenmore were rocked when Ger Malone scored his third goal and Mullinavat were twelve points clear. Glenmore were not going away and a goal midway through the half gave them a lifeline.Mark Mansfield scored a fine point in the sixteenth minute . It was to be the last score for Mullinavat as Glenmore threw everything at them in a bid to get back on terms. Ger Aylward was causing the Mullinavat defence some problems and and Glenmore  scored a second goal  six minutes from the end. Despite intense pressure the 'Vat defence held out and had five points to spare at the end. This was a fine team performance from our under 21 side and if they show the same work rate in the final they will be in with a fighting chance.
