Ladies Football

Mullinavat ladies footballers took on Killeshin of Laois in the leinster league last week in Mullinavat.  This proved to be a very entertaining game with Mullinavat losing out by a narrow margin.  The ladies have put in a huge effort this year under the tutelage of Paul Whelan and former under age Kerry footballer Richard Windle a teacher in St Kirean’s college Kilkenny.  During the early months of February and March they trained under lights in the field and the fruits of their labour are paying off.  Indeed the Killeshin people were very impressed with the skill level and the fitness of the Mullinavat girls.
The only difference between these two teams was the ability of the Laois girls to score vital goals whenever Mullinavat got into the lead.  Mullinavat in fairness were very composed and after going behind to a couple of early goals seemed to settle and play some lovely free flowing football. June Grennan was deadly from frees and Maria Murphy started attack after attack.  However as I said the leaking of goals proved costly and the visitors held on for a 3 point victory on a score line of Killeshin 4-7 to Mullinavat’s 2-10.  Their next opponents are Crossabeg/Ballymurn we wish them the best of luck.
